Flower Mound Texas name is derived from a prominent 12.5-acre mound located in the southern portion of the town which is covered by wild flowers.  The mound of Flower Mound is located on the north side of FM 3040 or Flower Mound Road and less than 1/4 mile east of FM 2499 or Long Prairie Road.

The generally accept explanation for the mound is that it was a sacred ceremonial ground of Wichita Indians.

Flower Mound Texas has a population of approximately 63,000 people and a land area of approximately 43.4 square miles and its southern border is located about 3 miles north of the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.  Flower Mound was first settled by European in the 1840s, with Native American habitation probably dating back to the 4000 B. C. time frame.

The majority of Flower Mound Texas is served by the Lewisville Independent School District, although portions of western Flower Mound are served by the Northwest Independent School District and the Argyle Independent School District.  Flower Mound is a community of young professionals and families.  The average family income of a Flower Mound family is approximately $66,000.00 and over 35% of the residents have a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree.

Flower Mound Texas is convenient to shopping with the Vista Ridge Mall in Lewisville and the Grapevine Mills Mall in Grapevine only minutes away, as well as several local strip shopping centers and the newly constructed Shops at Highland Village at the northeastern boundary of the Flower Mound city limits.
